newwave Awarded Position on the Medicare Secondary Payer Integration Contractor (MSPIC) Project

Feb 23, 2018

newwave is excited to serve as subcontractor with Neil Hoosier & Associates on the recently awarded Medicare Secondary Payer Integration Contractor (MSPIC) project. Through this 5-year contract supporting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) we will be providing SharePoint administration, technical writing, help desk support, and PMO support services. We are proud to continue our work with CMS and NHA as we continue to support CMS and the Medicare program.

MSPIC supports the Coordination of Benefits & Recovery (COB&R) program within the Office of Financial Management (OFM) at CMS. The COB&R program is responsible for the collection, management, and reporting of Medicare beneficiaries’ secondary insurance coverage, as well as the collection of mistaken or conditional payments made. To manage such a large program, CMS has established a matrix organization of independent contractors to manage the major functions. Under the matrix organization, the combined COB&R activities are performed by:

  • Medicare Secondary Payer Integration Contractor (MSPIC)
  • Business Program Operations Contractor (BCRC)
  • Medicare Secondary Payer Systems Contractor (MSPSC)
  • Commercial Repayment Center (CRC)
  • Worker’s Compensation Review Contractor (WCRC)

These COB&R component contractors work in concert to encompass all of the activities necessary to ensure that the primary payer pays first and, in the most cost effective and efficient manner, and to identify and pursue recovery of claims for which Medicare made conditional payment or mistakenly made primary payment. The MSPIC ensures that all new and ongoing activities are properly communicated, handled, and managed by all COB&R supporting matrix contractors. We are looking forward to being involved in the next phase of the MSPIC project. As a long-term trusted partner, newwave will continue to deliver high quality service to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
